The Monticello School Board, during its meeting on Tuesday, December 18th, 2007, held a public discussion meeting to include input on the district’s “10 Year Plan.”

During the “10 Year Facilities” portion of the meeting, the group discussed adding on to the Middle School.  The district will seek to gain state appropriations to help build on 6 additional classrooms.

If the grants become available, the goal is to add 3 science rooms, a computer room, a regular classroom, and a teacher’s workroom, plus another set of restrooms.

The board heard a report on the “Gifted & Talented” program, which highlighted several outstanding strong points.

The board was also given an update in regards to the recent monitoring of the “special education” program.  The information showed that the program was progressing well, but as always, there are changes in methods and resources, so future goals were set.  Over all the board seemed happy with the current standing of the program.

The board later approved accepting bids on a new school bus, and agreed to increase the district’s “short trip” bus driver pay to $8.30, which will fit into the salary schedule, and simplify payroll guidelines
