Monticello OEC Competes-Wins Medals-In State “Skills USA” Competition
Published by Monticello Schools April 17th, 2008 in Monticello School News.Eighteen students from the Monticello OEC traveled to Hot Springs and participated in the state Skills USA competition. Competition area included building construction, welding, auto mechanics, nursing, metal fabrications, and drafting. A total of 1,854 students from across Arkansas competed in 76 different contests. Students competing from Monticello included BJ Boykin, Beau Graves, Blaine Williams, Brett Hammett, Brooks Ashcraft, Caleb Bryant, Casey Walker, Emily Loveless, Jasmine Lewis, JD Durham, Kelly Coleman, Michael Skinner, Nick Cater, Nick Gifford, Robert Allen, Steven Koone, and Will Beaty.
Steven Koone, a junior at Monticello High School, won the silver medal in precision maching technology. Brett Hammett, a senior at Monticello High School, won the gold medal in technical drafting and a full paid scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Hammett will be attending the Skills USA National Competition June 23 – 28 in Kansas City, MO.
