Monticello High School Forensics and Debate Team Earn Awards at Competition

October 25th, 2016 by

MHSSixteen members of the MHS Forensics and Debate Team traveled to the Tiger Classic Invitational Forensics Tournament held at Little Rock Central High School this weekend.   Of the sixteen members, eleven were first-time competitors, and they certainly made MHS proud!

Under the leadership of Coaches Christy Armbrust and Tiffany Tucker, five students earned Excellent ratings and one student earned a Superior rating in preliminary rounds of competition.  The Excellent recipients include Hope Burmeister and Will Witt in Humorous Interpretation, Lauren Shepherd in Dramatic Interpretation, Becca Nichols in Prose Interpretation, and Kristen Daniel/Maddy Young in Duet Improvisation.  Jordan Smith earned the Superior ranking in Poetry, and she advanced to the semi-final round of competition with her piece.  Senior Keeton Orrell advanced to the quarter-final round in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Because of her appearance in the semifinals, Ms. Smith is already qualified for the State Tournament of Champions in April.  With the combined points of each team member who competed, MHS earned 3rd place overall at the competition.  Way to go Billies’ Forensics and Debate!
