The Monticello City Council held its regular monthly meeting,Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Several important issues were covered in the meeting.

The first item of business was a report from the Drew County Public Facilities Board, in reference to the proposed “Pecan Grove” apartments, which are to be located at the intersection of S. Hyatt & W. Jackson streets.

The updated information, presented primarily by Wayne Lindsey, covered problems caused by “ground slope”, in reference to problems with handicapped access.

The apartment complex is to consist only of handicapped & disabled access, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments.

The complex is now in the HUD qualifying stage, and is working on grant approvals.

The financial report was next, and seems to be “normal” for this time of year.  Highlights of the financial portion were the purchase of 2 trucks, for sales-tax revenues, and mention of 4 ongoing projects at the airport. The report from MEDC covered the progress of several projects, which will be covered in upcoming reports, here on MonticelloLive.com., including the “Ridgeway Hotel project”, which is now being considered to be used as a 32 unit, elderly apartment complex, which would help re-vitalize downtown Monticello. The most time consuming portion of the meeting was in reference to spending limits, “bid” procedures, and “consistency, across the board” on the city’s financial ordinances.

Other items discussed included; passing of an ordinance in reference to an EPA type “in lieu of bond” for the landfill, acceptance of bids for a flat-bed dump-truck, two resolutions to deal with grant application, and resolution to levy annual taxes.
