Monticello choir excels in competition

The Monticello High School Choir and Ensembles took four groups to the State Choir Competition in Conway Friday, April 13. The festival was held on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. Friday the 13th, according to director Michael Binns, proved to be a lucky day for his students.
It began when all four groups qualified for State at the regional level by each receiving a 1st division rating and plaques at the choir festival held on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
At the state competition, the groups performed before a panel of three judges and received the following scores and awards.
- Monticello Ladies Ensemble - 85, 85, 86, 2nd Division Ratings
- Monticello Madrigals - 88, 90, 97, 1st Division Rating and a 1st Division plaque
- Monticello Male Ensemble- 90, 96, 96, 1st Division Rating and a 1st Division plaque
- Monticello Concert Choir- 89, 90, 92, 1st Division Rating a 1st Division Plaque and a Sweepstake Trophy
The Monticello Choir groups have brought home seven plaques and one Sweepstakes trophy for this school year according to Mr. Binns who is now completing his 32nd year as the Monticello High School Choir Director.
