MHS Forensics Team Earns 1st Place Sweepstakes Award

The MHS Forensics Team earns another 1st place sweepstakes award. The group traveled to Cabot High School where 20 students qualified for the Tournament of Champions in 16 performances that advanced in the competition. Overall they earned thirty 1st- 3rd place rankings and 27 excellent or superior ratings. Advancing into finals were Mary Kate Jones, Zach Cason, and Drake Hill (1st place Mime); Sean Kaminicki, Mary Beth Wigley, and Dillon Todd (Mime Finalist); Savannah Reynolds and Drake Hill (2nd place Improvised Duet Acting); and Emily Grubbs (Poetry Finalist).
Semi-finalists were as follows: Erin Ashcraft and Don White (duet acting), Erin Ashcraft and Hannah James (mime), Alex Borchardt (solo acting), Jacob Chisom (extemporaneous speaking), L J Leslie (extemporaneous speaking), Jessica Craven (prose interpretation), Salonica Hunter (storytelling), Jo Joseph (storytelling), Anna St. John (solo acting), Becca Stephenson (poetry interpretation), and David deRueda (humorous interpretation).
Five more team members have now earned enough points for membership into the National Forensics League: Kelly Murphy, Salonica Hunter, Don White, Dillon Todd, and N’Shyka Shelton. The next tournament for the team is in February at Ft. Smith Southside.
