MHS BULLETIN 09/08/2008

Senior athletes - if you plan to participate in college sports you must be registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse and have qualifying ACT scores. If you do not have ACT scores you need to take the October test. If you have not registered with the Clearinghouse you need to do so. Registration is done online. Information is available from your coach or Mrs. Curry in the counseling center.

Any senior planning to attend college next year - If you have not taken the ACT test you need to do so. The next test date is October 25 and the registration deadline is Sept. 19th

The PSAT test will be given on Oct. 15th at Monticello High School. The PSAT is for juniors and is the qualifying test for The National Merit Scholarship Program.
The PSAT is a pre SAT test, much like the PLAN is a pre ACT test.
The PSAT test fee is $13.00. Sign up in the counseling center this week. Please make checks or money orders payable to Monticello High School.

Students cannot be dropped off for school on the east side of the building. The only place you are allowed to be dropped off is at the back of the building between the school and the student parking lot. Students you need to understand this is a safety issue! If you drive a vehicle to school as soon as you get here you must get out of your vehicle, leave the student parking lot, and walk down to the school building. You may not hang out in your vehicle or on the parking lot.

CLUB NEWS:
Starting Tuesday at 6:30 pm, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will begin meeting at the Foundation Building. Everyone is welcome for fun, fellowship, and bible study. This group will meet each Tuesday throughout the semester. If you have questions see Coach Paschal.

SPORTS NEWS:
Tonight’s B-Game against Dumas has been rescheduled from 9/8 to October 13.

Monticello Cross Country: Saturday September 6 the Monticello Cross Country teams competed in the Harry Denson Invitational Cross Country Meet held on UAM campus and sponsored by the Hashem Law Firm. Teams from Hamburg, Drew Central, Camden, and El Dorado competed in the event, which was run on a very wet, slow course. Due to recent heavy rains, mud and water were over ankle deep throughout most of the course. The top ten finishers in each division were awarded medals.

In the Sr. Boys division, the Billies won the Team Championship with Hamburg second and Camden third. Ben Alexander was the overall winner in this race. He covered the 3.1 miles in 18:51 to claim the first place medal. Cody Jaggers was 3rd in 20:37, Caleb Bryant was 7th in 23:05, Jordan Hopper was 8th in 24:24, Robby Weih was 9th in 24:49, and Mason Deal finished in 12th to round out the scoring.

The Sr. Girls earned the Runner-up trophy finishing behind team champion Drew Central and ahead of Camden. The Lady Billies placed three runners in the top four with Ellen Chisom 2nd, Kelsey Bryant 3rd, Meredith Grubbs 4th, and Natalie Skinner 14th.

The Jr. Boys team placed second in their division with Hamburg winning and Drew Central finishing third. Jacob Chisom was the overall champion in this division, winning the 2 mile race in a time of 12:52. Shiloh Gober was 4th in 14:03, Andrew Robinson was 10th in 15:57, Cody Piggott was 11th, Jay Kent Gates was 12th, Tucker Ward was 15th, Coltin Hampton was 17th, Cole Eubanks was 23rd, Drake Hill was 24th, and Ryan Tassin was 25th.

The Jr. Girls also finished in the runner-up position, behind team champion Hamburg and ahead of third place El Dorado. Madelyn Gates finished 1st, Emily Grubbs was 3rd, Rebecca Chisom was 10th, Keeli Leonard was 12th, Carol Ann Capps was 22nd, and Brandy Berryman was 27th.

All young men, grades 9th through 12th, planning to try-out for the MHS baseball team in the spring, need to pick up a registration form from Coach Beasley. You must register now to be eligible to try-out in the spring. Wednesday, September 30, is the last day registration forms will be accepted. There will be no exceptions.

AFTERSCHOOL NEWS:
The after-school program is open and will run from 3:20-6:00 Monday through Thursday. ALL students who plan to attend MUST fill out a NEW enrollment form. Anyone wishing to ride the bus, MUST fill out a NEW bus form. Both forms MUST be turned in to Ms. RIPLEY (Rm 71) at least 24 hours before the first day of attendance. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Schedule:
Monday-Thursday (General Homework/Research in the Library) Students MUST have homework assignments!
Tues. & Wed. (Math Homework-Ms. Russell’s room)
Other classes will be announced soon.

LUNCH MENU:
Tuesday you have a choice of potato bar or cheese pizza, garden salad, ranch dressing, crackers and grapes. You have a choice of tea, bottled water or milk to drink.
