MES Staff Member Arrested on Drug Charges by DTF

September 10th, 2009 by

According to Lt. Jason Akers, 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force Agents arrested Amy Arrington, age 34, of Monticello last Friday after an investigation was completed that led Agents to obtain an arrest warrant for Arrington for Attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud (A.C.A. 5-64-403).

Arrington was arrested on a felony warrant obtained by Agents, and was released on her own recognizance after her first appearance/ bond hearing.

Arrington is a member of Monticello Elementary School’s special education staff, and has been suspended, with pay, pending further investigation by the ethic committee, who have received information about the situation.

  1. lipgloss4simon. says:

Amy is a very sweet and caring person and as most will be I am a bit shocked…hopefully she can get the help she needs for her drug problem. Addictions come in all shapes and sizes..from food to drugs and they effect all races ,social levels and even to members or friends of whom ever may be reading this.As people who share a community lets say a prayer for those who have troubles in their lives and not be haters with what we say about people.. One must not forget that we all are sinners in our own right.

  2. cant believe says:

I just cant believe this individual who has worked with special Needs Children has been able to be employed this long in the Monticello School District!

  3. go hogs says:

This makes me want to have drug testing for all school employees, even bus drivers.

  4. i think says:

that’s crazy the women just walks NO BOND unreal and is STILL getting paid by us. WHY??? This is what is teaching kids.Who sets these bonds anyway??The DTF work hard and risk their lifes everyday just so these dope heads get off so easy.WHY???I don’t understand, could someone explain this bs to me please.

  5. BKayG says:

    Wow.
This story really breaks my heart, and at the same time, makes me somewhat angry. I just don’t like the thought of entrusting the welfare/well-being of innocent children to people who may be under the influence of drugs!!!!!

  6. DG says:

I agree with lipgloss…Amy is a very sweet person. She hit a very rough patch in her life a few years ago and unfortunately turned to the wrong thing for comfort. The school did not know about her problem, if they did they would not have kept her as an employee I’m sure. And she wasn’t out buying crack on the corner, its not that kind of drug problem. She needs help and hopefully now she can get it…remember, we’re to hate the sin, not the sinner.

  7. Melissa says:

I AGREE WITH THE GO HOGS SAYS: I JUST WONDER IN MY MIND HOW MANY OF THE STAFF IS WORKING WITH OUR KIDS IN OUR SCHOOLS ARE TAKEING DRUGS OR EVEN ON THEM THEY NEED TO TAKE ON DRUGS TEST ON ALL THEM AND DO SOME BACK GROUND CHECKING ON ALL THEM.

  8. Hmm... says:

You think? It’s too bad it took so long. They should drug test any people working with children. Almost every job has drug testing. Good job DTF!!! If it wasn’t for you she would still be there teaching our children.

  9. I DO NOT KNOW THIS PERSON BUT SHE WILL BE IN MY FAMILY’S NIGHT TIME PRAYERS. I AGREE THAT DRUG TESTING SHOULD BE DONE ON OUR BUS DRIVERS. I JUST ASSUMED THEY WERE.

  10. communitymom says:

My sister actually does drug testing for schools in Texas, on students, teachers, and different companies, … But I do not know if they do drug testing in the schools here.

  11. Don says:

Amy is innocent untill she is proven guilty. I know this lady and belive this is all a missunderstanding. Everyone should hold judgement on her untill the truth is told. All you gossip mongers, you really need to look in your own closets and stop all the rumors that you spread. Give this young lady a break, an d a chance before you all have her convicted in your own minds.

  12. Jim A. Hall says:

Fortunately, my child at MES was not a special needs child. Hopefully the school boars will terminate her contract at the next school board meeting. Legally she is innonct until proven guilty. However, our children need to be safe.

  13. Belle says:

Melissa, every school emplyee is required to have a background check. Currently only bus drivers are randomly drug tested. With that said, Amy is a wonderful person and a wonderful teacher. Her school children thrive and absolutely love their time in her class. Judge not lest ye be judged! Praying for you Amy!

  14. Lisa Copeland says:

Yea if this was anyone else that you dont know. You would all be hang her , Put that drug head in jail where she should be. But because you know her you want everyone to give her a break. IT WAS DRUGS!!!!! She was trying to get Illegally. Prescription Drugs are just as bad as street drugs. Or is it only when you dont know the person?????
Alot of people have hit rough patches in their lives. Does that make it right???

  15. Karen says:

Fortunately, my child is a special needs child at this school and we love Amy. I don’t know anything about her except for what I’ve seen since she has worked with my child and she has really been good to him. So, I’m not going to judge her because I’m not her judge but I will and am certainly praying for her. I’ve learned that there are always two sides to the story so I think that everyone should just mind their own business until they hear the facts. I have never felt that my child was in any danger. I’m praying for you Amy. Hang in there.

  16. cj says:

this being how people in these united states are wrongfully convicted.

  17. Cant believe says:

To all you out there who think this is a MISUNDERSTANDING: the school district has NOT BEEN oblivious to Amy’s situation! Get YOUR facts straight. Yes always pray for those in need; yes always forgive: But YES always remember those employees who have had to pick up Amy’s mess and go on through the day for the special need’s children that our money has paid HER to nurture!!

  18. Kohle says:

This is just unfortunate for all involved. Her family is my main concern here. I too have had a loved one crucified and condemned in the media. What is usually wrote is what makes a good “story” and not all facts have been divulged as of yet. There is more to it than what all of us are know, so my judgment on the situation will be on reserve until all the facts are known to me.

With this being said, I too am a parent and I certainly am concerned with the whole situation at school. IF she is guilty of a crime then the school board will do what is appropriate for all parties involved. These members are voted in to their positions to handle these sort of things.

My prayer is that the justice system will do what it needs to do while being fair, and the whole situation will be resolved.

  19. Lucas says:

This woman clearly has a problem and needs help not condemnation. I hope she does not loss her job over this and is given the opportunity to get help for her problem.

  20. as a parent i can see how shocking a story like this is… the person accused does have a good heart. she does love her job and the special children she teaches and they absolutely love her even the parents do… she is also a good mother but we all fall short of the glory of God… did we ever stop to think just maybe she didnt do what she has allegedly been accused of? of course we didnt.. gossip is much more juicy than the truth… before we stand in judgement of others lets make sure we have own back doors free of dirt..

  21. HFC says:

I cannot believe the comments I am reading here. What happened to “innocent until proven guilty”? Being charged DOES NOT constitute guilt. If the school district felt the charges were substantiated, don’t you think she would have already been fired and not suspended with pay. Why was something like this even reported before she was proven guilty? Now, even if proven innocent, she will probably not be able to work in Monticello. When she was arrested was she tested for the drug she was accused of trying to obtain? Get all the facts before you assume she is guilty!!!

  22. BJP says:

This is sad, but you know what. I’ve had the privilege of working at a school this year. I applaud all teachers who aren’t drug addicts after dealing with our children and the new rules that won’t let you hit them or paddle them. And, it’s the kids that should be tested for drugs. These are elementary school children and their drugs are more lethal than crack or just as lethal. So sorry for the teacher, but there’s always two sides to every story. My daddy used to say, if you don’t have anything good to say, then don’t say anything at all.

  23. Mark Mason says:

Another good person falls victim to Prohibition…why haven’t we learned from the past?

  24. DS says:

Should this girl really be fired? If yes then everyone who’s taking prescription drugs should also be fired, yes? The only difference is that she tried to get them in an illegal manner. She could have gone to a Dr. and got a prescription and be on drugs everyday legally, right? So, lets drug test everyone, especially the bus drivers, because some prescriptions states very clearly that you should not operate machinery while taking these pills.

  25. allyy w. says:

You just insulted us kids by saying that kids should be drug tested! take ur own advice! You do know that all kids arent bad right??

  26. Amy, Everybody makes mistakes in there life. Hopefully this does’nt ruin yours because of publicity.

  27. blondie says:

Random drug test is always necessary for anyone that works with children.

  28. DESHONE says:

Anyone that knows Amy knows that she loves her kids and would not intentionally endanger that for anyone or anything..those of you pointing your finger ‘look in your back yard before looking into someone elses’ remember Judge and you will be too….Hang in there girl..always in our prayers..you’ll make it through!

  29. white_bull says:

How many teachers, construcion workers, just plain folks, that we meet every day, are on drugs? I think we would be shocked. But the difference is, they were prescribed by a doctor. Several people that I have heard of, started with the Dr. then after a while, they are hooked. Example. Rush Limbaugh, but he is just one of thousands. From what I have read, most do not realize they are hooked, until the script runs out. If that is the case, and I don’t know if it is, this lady should get treatment, not scorn. Drug addiction, should be a medical problem, it is treatable. But without the facts, I find it hard to just throw another human being, into hell of having a felony conviction, with no hope of redemption. And listen to the ads on TV, almost all ads for drugs, also list side effects, but it is so fast and written so small, you really don’t get to know that what you ask their Dr. about, is addictive. But the big drug companies, need to sell their products, and like the car companies in the 70s, they can pay off a few people and still make big profits. It really is about the money, not health.

  30. ll says:

I think everyone should get tested. We all do drive right? We pass these bus drivers every day with students on them. We all should be drug tested. It’s always easier to blame someone because that makes us feel better. Get a life.

  31. BIG EYES says:

They took prayer out of school and drugs in school……thats ashame what this world coming to.

  32. candy says:

i know amy shes a very sweet and kind person we dont know if shes even guilty of this yet people need to quit being so judgemental because i know they are not perfect either my prayers are with her and her children

  33. Max Hunter says:

I’m here to give White Bull a big tip of the hat. And to all of those who tried to argue with the Bull, you all, for the most part, got your “opinion” whipped and handed back to you. I was almost compelled to get in there and help you out, but after reading the comments on this critical story, it was obvious to me that you needed no assistance. You have the others at a disadvantage, in that you have pure logic and the powers of an open mind on your side. I can’t tell you how refreshing that is, especially in this town. So, White Bull, you are not alone.

  34. max hunter says:

What I find very interesting about the “mandatory drug testing for everyone” point-of-view is that someone smashed out of their head on whiskey can pass a drug test…while drunk!

  35. concerned teacher says:

As a fellow teacher, Amy is a joke to the profession. I have known her as a coworker and been around her socially. We now have to clean up after her. This is not the first time. She has been getting slack for a long time. Its about time this get handled. Our children are being guided by this? She should step down, WITHOUT PAY! She should be a bigger person, and do it herself.

  36. sick of it!!! says:

yes u can get these pills from the doctors everyday and for the ones that need them no problem. but the ones that are going and getting these pills for an injury from three years ago thats not hurting anymore but they lie and tell the doctors they still hurt just to feed a hunger that is terible. the cops had to have enough evidence to get a warrant of arrest issued by a judge to arrest her that will tell ya something

  37. Don says:

“Concerned Teacher”, seems that you are such a holy roller. What kind of sectrets do you have in your closet? Can you pass a drug test? Do you drink and drive? Seems to me you have hate built up for this other teacher. Everyone has her tried and convicted already. Hope this all comes back and bites the people that hate this lady. I happen to know that there are other teachers that have done worse than what Amy is accussed of.

  38. Nothing better to do says:

OH MY GOD! Are you people really serious about all of this… It seems like it is ok for someone to do something wrong as long as a few of you know the person.. If some of you didnt know the person then it would be all wrong then.. Everyone has a bad point in their life right? What about the guy that gets caught selling to an undercover? Maybe he has a “legitimate” reason why he needs the money? diapers? milk? FOR KIDS! Oh wait he was selling and you people dont know him so its allllllll wrong then huh? Get a life nosey, gossiping, side taking, selfish people without an open mind!

  39. Kohle says:

It will be interesting to see what comes out of all this. I just hope that her children don’t catch the backlash from all of this…it is usually the innocent people related to the offender that catches the brunt of the ridicule. With that being said, my prayers are with Amy and her family. This should be the wake up call that she needed…(keeping the fingers crossed too)

  40. Lil Lady says:

EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES BUT SHES A TEACHER,WHY WOULD A TEACHER MAKES THAT KIND OF MISTAKE AND THE PUBLIC IS GONNA HAVE ALOT TO SAY RATHER SHES GUILTY R INNOCENT.

  41. Madison says:
