MEDC Report-Property Inspection and Grants
Published by Joe Burgess May 14th, 2008 in MEDC.This is a portion of the MEDC report as it was presented to the group by MEDC director Truman Hamilton.
I am responding to complaints filed with our office about the condition of property at some locations in the city.
Trash, weeds, grass and other debris including non-running cars and trucks continues to be a problem at a number of locations. In addition to four complaints called into our office, I have received a faxed list of eight locations on Vinegar Hill that I am working on.
It takes a great deal of time to locate the property, locate the owner and begin the notification process.

I have applied for two grants for the city. One in concert with a state GIF grant application that was filed last month.
This is a grant through the USDA. If funded, it will pay up to $20,400.00 for the purchase of a quick response rescue vehicle for the fire department.
The other grant is also through the USDA and if it is funded it will pay up to $21,900 for a bin truck for the solid waste department. I am working on another grant application that will compliment the $25,000.00 grant we received earlier this year. Our match on this grant was $17,000.00. If funded, it will reduce our outlay by $10,000.00 on this project.
We were notified that our Farmer’s Market Grant application has been received. Awards have not yet been made by this organization.
