MEDC Report: Intermodal Facility & Grants

MonticelloLive is posting excerpts from Truman Hamilton’s recent Director’s report, as it was presented to the MEDC.  This is a good way to let people know of the many projects that the MEDC is a part of.

Intermodal Facility—I attended the Southeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facility Authority meeting that was held in Monticello March 19, 2008.  I have been working with Patricia Hargrove at SEAEDD in Pine Bluff to prepare an application for a grant from the state GIF for construction of sewer lines, water lines and a rail siding.  One industry has made a commitment to locate there as soon as the infrastructure allows and another will locate when the rail siding is completed into the facility. I understand that Range Fuel has expressed interest in the location.

Grants—The fire truck grant application for up to $30,000.00 has been filed with the state and a companion application for 15% of the cost of the truck through USDA is nearing completion. We were notified that we have been awarded a $25,000.00 grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage. The Department of Arkansas Heritage received 202 grant applications with requests that totaled $4.2 million.  Their funds were limited to $600,000.00 and only 33 projects were selected so I feel very good about being selected. I will be working with Gary Clements of Clements & Associates who will be the architect on refurbishing our building.
