Published by Joe Burgess July 11th, 2008 in MEDC.This is a portion of the MEDC report as it was recently presented to the group by MEDC director Truman Hamilton.
The Intermodal Authority meeting was held at the Commercial Bank Employee Center, Wednesday June, 18th. Arkansas Midland Railroad continues to market the Intermodal Facility. They are trying to add to their customer base by promoting our planned facility. Additionally we heard that Mr. Reginald Glover has been contacted by a representative of the Port of New Orleans. This organization is showing interest in using the Intermodal as a staging area. The New Orleans Port in located in the city and has a space problem. It was generally agreed at the meeting that construction of the access road, rail spur and water and sewer would be pursued. The GIF funds of $154,000 will be used to match the two federal grants of $400,000 each to start these improvements. The federal funds have to be obligated or they will be lost. Another round of federal funding is expected this fall.
