MEDC Meeting Report
Published by Joe Burgess December 8th, 2007 in MEDC.The Monticello Economic Development Commission met Wednesday afternoon at UAM.
The Jefferson County Red Cross has re0organized and is now the Southeast Arkansas Red Cross. They have asked for, and been granted a small space at the Workforce Training Center. The office is a “support” office and will have nothing to do with blood donations.
MEDC Director, Truman Hamilton reported on the Range Fuel project. The Inter-modal facility should be able meet the requirements of Range Fuel within the next 12-18 months. This will include water, sewer, and rail tracks.
The airport report stated that the fence project’s current phase has been completed, and protects the runway. The rest of the airport is expected to included when funds become available
Drew Memorial Hospital Administrator, Richard Goddard, clarified that DMH gets it’s blood supply from LifeShare, not the Red Cross. Goddard explained that LifeShare gives much better customer service, such as better supply and support, and will circulate the blood reserves much better than the Red Cross.
Karen Brown from the Drew HHI told the group about the prescription plan available for low income and hardship cases. MonticelloLive.com will have a follow up story on this program soon.
When it came time to chose the nominating committee to choose officers for the upcoming year, the MEDC members voted to keep the same officers, instead of changing leaders, since they have just replaced the executice director.
Fennell, Purifoy, & Hammock Architects were at the meeting and gave an update on the “Ridgeway Hotel Project”. Details of their presentation will be in an upcoming story on MonticelloLive.
