McGehee Owlfest—October 9-11
Published by Joe Burgess August 2nd, 2008 in Site.The McGehee Chamber of Commerce is planning a special celebration: Owlfest 2008. This event will be held October 9 - 11 2008, and will coincide with McGehee High School’s Homecoming activities and football game. McGehee High School is organizing a Homecoming Parade which will be held Thursday, October 9. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday night, October 10. Homecoming festivities will begin on the field about 45 minutes prior to the start of the game.
A street dance will be held downtown following the game on Friday night, October 10, with All Occasions DJs (www.aodjs.com) spinning records.
Saturday, October 11, downtown McGehee will be the setting for a 5K Run and Walk, a BBQ Cook-Off Competition, a talent contest, horseshoe tournament, archery contest, bingo, a National Wild Turkey Federation sanctioned Owl Hoot and Turkey Calling contest, and children’s activities. The BBQ Cook-Off Competition will offer a $500 1st place cash prize to the winner of each division. Second place in each division will pay $300 and third place will pay $200.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, afternoon, McGehee Bank will host a Razorback tailgate party in the Gazebo Park downtown complete with a BBQ meal and other activities. On Saturday night, First National Bank of McGehee will provide musical entertainment with Third Degree band playing from 8 p.m. to midnight on the First National Bank Stage. Various crafts and food vendors will be set up downtown all day Saturday.
Former McGehee resident, Chef Jamie McAfee, two-time Arkansas Chef of the Year, will present a cooking demonstration at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The McGehee High School Touchdown Club will host an 18-hole Two-Person Golf Scramble on Saturday, October 11, in conjunction with Owlfest 2008. Tee time is 9 a.m. at the Delta Country Club in McGehee.
Children’s activities will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon near the IBM Theater downtown.
McGehee High School classes are being encouraged to plan reunions for this weekend.
