McDonald’s expansion to include high-tech lounge

You’ve probably seen the work being done on McDonald’s on Highway 425 North in front of Wal-Mart and wondered, “What are they doing?” Michelle Smith, manager, confirms that the restaurant’s expansion is significant. The franchise is expanding from 55 feet to 95 feet, and the added area will feature, among other things, a high-tech lounge area and game room for families, children, and college students.

The restaurant is already equipped with free WIFI high-speed internet access, and the addition will take full advantage of that. Flat screen TVs, Xboxes, dance video games and computer screens will be part of the dynamic new renovation. Add to that interactive basketball shoots, and the addition becomes an “ideal place for birthday parties and other gatherings.”
Hal Burt said, “I think you’ll appreciate the investment we’ve made. The restaurant will be enhanced with new colors, a fresh new look that will take your breath away. It will be a totally different look than any McDonald’s you’ve ever seen.”

The projected date for completion is mid to late November.

I was wondering what they were up too! I was getting alittle nervous thinking maybe they thought they needed a children’s gym (like most of the Mc D’s do). Glad to hear that it will be more conducive for the whole family. Thanks for digging up the dirt.

My husband thought they were fixing someones accidental running into the front of the building with their car….LOL,I told him I was sure it wasnt that!I am glad it is not the addition of one of those awful play yards either…this sounds really ineteresting and fresh…although I think it will make them more prone to loitering.

I read on some news site recently about the nation-wide McDonald’s facelift. The article said that they were planning on going drastic with new constructions - doing away with the roof design they all seem to have and changing the colors. Sounds like a step in the right direction. Now if they could get rid of the transfats and hydrogenated oils!

Hi. I’m the store manager for the Monticello McDonald’s and wanted to comment on the story. We do appreciate the job Jeff has done with this story. I wanted to mention we are expanding from 55 seats to 95 seats (not feet). We do currently have WI-FI but unfortunately its not free. It doesn’t cost much and instructions are available at the McDonald’s to connect. We are very excited about the expansion and all the new high-tech gadgets we will be getting. I apologize for the construction and occasional lobby closings but I think the Monticello community will be very proud of their McDonald’s once its completed. Stop by and see our progress as much as you like :)
