Mayor’s Report, By Mayor Joe Rogers

Mayor Rogers and the Monticello City Council held their regular scheduled city council meeting on January 17th with a special guest speaker Former State Senator Jim Scott who spoke about the Sparta Aquifer. On January 28th, Mayor Rogers attended a grand opening ceremony for Wells Fargo. On January 30th, Mayor Rogers, local law enforcement, other community leaders, school officials and emergency personnel met in regards to planning for emergency management situations here in Monticello. A presentation was given that consisted of improving our plans and procedures to use in the event of an emergency at our schools. On January 30th, Mayor Rogers attended a Community Leader’s Luncheon at the First Assembly of God Church in Monticello.  On February 4th, Mayor Rogers attended a meeting with Governor Mike Beebe held at the University of Arkansas at Monticello in receiving a $2 million dollar check to go towards the proposed School of Forestry Complex.  On February 6th, Mayor Rogers attended a Monticello Economic Development Commission meeting held at the John F. Gibson University Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.  On February 13th, Mayor Rogers and the County Judge Damon Lampkin attended a Southeast Arkansas Cornerstone Coalition, Inc. meeting in Hamburg.
 
In addition,
Repaired water leaks on Old Warren Road, Highway 278 East, Cooper Street, East Shelton Street, North Gabbert Street, Wellingbergen Street, and North Speers Street
Replaced new water values on Old Warren Road, and at McCloy Park
Patched holes in the road around McCloy Park, on Gabbert Street, Barkada Road, North Main Street, East Gaines Street, and Old Warren Road
Took down rummage sale signs off of the street lights and off of the stop signs
Cleaned out the Beaver Dam in Indian Mounds
Installed a meter tap on Old Warren Road
Picked up limbs on Oakland Street between Hyatt and Highway 138, North Main Street, Old Warren Road, and on North Hyatt Street
Repaired sewer problems on Westwood Street, Highway 278 East, South Conley Street
Cleaned out the culverts all over town due to excessive amount of leaves from the high winds
Dug out the electric wire at the airport
Prepared the roads by putting sand on bridges and streets for the icy weather
Rotted the sewer lines by the hospital and by the nursing home on North Chester Street
Removed stumps at Jordan Park
