Man Killed in Farming Accident

August 31st, 2018 by

Fatal farming accidentAccording to the Ashley County Sheriff’s Dept,  Tuesday afternoon at 5:24, they received a 911 call in reference to a man being trapped inside of a combine near Wilmot.

Officers arrived and were told that other farm workers were able to get that man out of the combine header. As officers approached they could see the victim on the ground with both legs amputated, and tied off with  tourniquet. At that time, the victim was conscious and talking.

Due to the terrain of the field, Fast Ambulance was not able to reach the accident scene, but personnel were brought in by law-enforcement.

The victim, Darryl Jackson, of Bastrop, LA, soon lost consciousness and passed away at the accident scene, where he was pronounced deceased by an Ashley County deputy corner.

The combine operator described the events to deputies, reporting that the combine header had been in a bind, and was unable to turn. He reversed the combine to work on the header. Mr. Jackson was assisting.  He added that as the combine completed its last cycle, it was under pressure and the victim was sucked into the header.

Officials noted that there were no signs of foul play, and that the operator of the operator of the combine did not appear under the influence of any substances.

  2. Jo Veiga says:

Dear Lord! I pray God touches everyone involved and keeps everyone’s heart’s calm and steady. To be involved in a passing is painful even if you aren’t related. His bless the family that has lost him. And His bless all of those involved.
