MADD Mock DWI Accident-Friday Morning
Published by Joe Burgess April 10th, 2008 in Drew Central News, Monticello School News, Police /Legal, UAM News, WRECKS.Friday morning will the time, Monticello High School will be the place, for the one thing last year that everyone said, “I wish I’d known about that” in reference to. This year make plans to attend, because once again, everyone is invited.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving, in cooperation with the Monticello Police Dept., Drew County Sheriff’s Dept., Monticello Fire Dept., Arkansas State Police, UAM Public Safety, Southeast Emergency Medical Services, Monticello Ambulance Service, and a Medical Evacuation Helicopter are all scheduled to take part.
The most important part of the event will be the Monticello and Drew Central students who will be able to see an authentic re-enactment of what actually takes place at the accident scene caused by a drunk driver.
The event will include wrecked vehicles, like the one shown here from last years event, as well as several student actors taking part.
With one high school prom Saturday night, and the other just a couple of weeks away, MADD couldn’t have picked a better time to present this.
A special thank you goes out to Steve Brantley, who has spent a tremendous amount of time in making this year’s program even more realistic, and designing the demonstration area so that everyone present can gain a better understanding of each step of the process.
Everyone is welcome to be a part of the MADD Mock DWI, Friday at 9 a.m. at the Monticello High School.

I would like to thank Steve and MADD along with all the other volunters that took their time to present this to the young people of Monticello. I also want to say to the students that acted in the presentation that they did a wonderful job last year. If this touches just one life, saves a daughter, son, mother, or father; then it was well worth it. So many needless deaths are caused every day due to drunk driving. Parents, please sit down with your child Friday afternoon and talk with your child. You may be suprised to find out that because of this presentation they decide it isn’t worth the risk of taking someone’s life. Prom is close, and my prayer is that the young adults of Drew County choose wisely when someone offers that drink.
To the participants this year I again say thank you and what you are doing is a wonderful thing!
