Local Teams Invited to Take Part in Walk Across America-Begins Sunday, Sept. 20
August 29th, 2009 by Drew County OfficesThe Fall Walk Across Arkansas begins on Sunday, September 20 and will end on Saturday, November 14. Walk Across Arkansas is an eight week walking program for teams of 8 people. (The individuals do not have to all walk at the same time.) It is a friendly competition to see who can log the most miles. Each team has a captain to whom they report their individual miles. The team captains contact the county Extension Office to report the team miles. The County Office then reports the miles for the county teams. Teams can win prizes at the state-wide level for the number of miles logged.
The first eight Drew County teams who register will receive insulated drawstring back packs complements of the Drew County Health Unit. Team members do accomplish more than winning prizes. People who walk regularly decrease their risk of depression, heart attacks, hypertension, obesity, osteoporosis, stroke, and some cancers. Becoming a part of a Walk Across Arkansas Team can help you to become a healthier and happier person.
“The Walk Across Arkansas program is open to all eligible persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
