Jamie Hunnicutt of Lacey, was pronounced dead on scene by a Ouachita County Coroner, Friday morning, following the 1 am accident.
Camden Police officers were dispatched to the scene, where a pedestrian reportedly was struck by a vehicle on Highway 79 north of Bradley Ferry Road.
Upon their arrival, officers made contact with the driver of a Kia Optima, who stated he was traveling south on Highway 79, when he saw a male (also from Monticello) walking northbound in the outside lane of the southbound lanes, trying to flag down traffic. The driver said he swerved to avoid the man in the road, but struck Jamie Hunnicutt, who was walking several feet behind him.
The Monticello man told officers that he and Hunnicutt were traveling through Camden, going to Monticello, and had a flat tire. Hunnicutt had attempted to make a call for help, and started walking north on the southbound side of highway behind him, while he was trying to flag down traffic and when the Kia swerved to avoid hitting him, but struck Hunnicutt.
Her funeral was held Monday morning
