Help with Prescription Medicines in Drew County
By: Drew County Hometown Health Coalition

According to the Drew County Health Care Access Survey conducted in 2003, 19% of Drew County Residents do not have health insurance and of the residents who do have health insurance, 20% do not have prescription drug coverage.  The Drew County Hometown Health Coalition in partnership with Drew Memorial Hospital, Southeast Medical Foundation, Drew Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Drew County Health Unit, AmeriCorps of Arkansas, Mid-Delta Community Consortium and the 20 for the Future, is offering assistance to residents who may have difficulty paying for prescription medications.

Pharmaceutical companies offer free or discounted medications through assistance programs, but the application forms and the amount of information required to receive assistance can be overwhelming.  Now, through the Drew County RX Assistance Program, residents of Drew County have a link to those companies.

The Drew County RX Assistance Program is located in the Drew County Health Unit. Individuals interested in assistance will need to bring their medications and proof of income when applying. A $5.00 application fee is required.

The RX Assistance patient advocate will then complete the Pharmaceutical Company’s application, send forms to the patient’s doctor’s office to be signed and mail the application into the Pharmaceutical Company. Most available medications cost $5.00 for a 3-month supply of the medication and are delivered right to the patient’s home.

The Patient Advocate will assist with follow-up and medication refills every 3 months.  Even if a resident has Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance, that patient may receive services if they can show a hardship in buying medications.  If you are interested in receiving services, please call Jill Pennington at 870-367-6234,ext 230.
