Driver of Pick-up Dies Following Collision with Chip Truck, Sept. 27

October 26th, 2010 by

Matthew Womack, age 46, of Panama City, FL passed away on October 11, at UAMS in Little Rock, from injuries he sustained in a collision with a chip truck at the intersection of the new HWY 35 bypass and HWY 425 North, on Sept. 27.

Womack’s eastbound Ford F150 pick-up apparently pulled into the path of a southbound chip truck The loaded chip truck, driven by a Monticello man, collided with the front drivers side of the Ford, before the big rig rolled onto it’s side, and continued sliding down the highway, and into the ditch.

The driver of the chip truck was also transported to DMH.  A passenger in the pick-up was treated and later released

Monticello’s Fire & Rescue Team responded, and removed both drivers from the vehicles.

Arkansas State Police investigated the accident, assisted by Drew County Sheriff’s deputies.

Southbound traffic on HWY 425 was re-routed down Country Club Road, and back to HWY 425 near the post office, until the road was cleared.

Triple A Towing cleared the load of chips out of the road, set the tractor trailer upright, and removed the vehicles.

My heart is broken. Matt was my financee’ and I have known him since elementary school. He had just left Panama City to try and make some money elsewhere due to the oil spill lack of work here. I flew to Arkansas and stayed by his side for 4 days and he died 2 hours after I left. My heart goes out to all who were involved. As for me, I can barely breath. I love him so.
