U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Mike Ross announced today that Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello will receive an $83,968 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funds will be used to plan and develop a rural health network.

Rural health networks link individual health care providers and facilities to help ease communication and improve continuity of care in a specified locality, which can lead to improved patient care.

“This grant will help Monticello-area residents receive safe, effective health care,” said Lincoln. “Rural health networks can improve patient access to care and increase the effectiveness of an area’s health care services. Working together, network members can address problems that might not be solved by a single entity alone.”

“This grant is a win-win for patients and providers,” said Pryor.  “With the help of these funds, both the vitality of Monticello residents and the viability of rural health care networks will be significantly strengthened.”

“It is critical that our nation’s rural health care providers have access to the resources they need to provide our rural families, children and seniors with the necessary health care services,” Ross said. “I am proud to join with my colleagues to announce this Rural Health Network Grant for Drew Memorial Hospital to help them offer accessible and affordable health care to the community.”
