Library Taking Part in “Picturing America”

The Monticello Branch Library is proud to announce we have been chosen to participate in “Picturing America”, the newest initiative of the “We the People” grant program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This grant provides 40 large laminated posters and a resource book to be shared with local teachers. It seeks to strengthen the teaching, the study, and the understanding of American history and our founding principles. The posters will be on a rotating display at the library from September through May 2009. Come see some outstanding American art, learn about our past, and see the past come alive!

“The Last of the Mohicans” was painted in 1919 by N. C. Wyeth to illustrate a new, deluxe edition of the book by James Fenimore Cooper. It is an oil on canvas now in the collection of the Brandywine River Museum, Chadds Ford, PA.
