Junior Billies win conference, undefeated at 8-0!
Published by Jeff October 26th, 2006 in News, Schools.Led by Coach Kenny Pace, the Junior Billies shut out 4 different teams this year, including tonight’s blanking of Crossett. Multiple touchdowns became an expected event. Game time wasn’t the main distinguishing mark of this 2006 Junior Billies team, however.
"I’ve never been around a group of kids that are like a family. They make practice fun because - yes, theyr’re great athletes, but - it’s the way they treat each other. The thing that impresses me most about these kids is that they treat each other like family and they have great attitudes. That’s a reflection of their homes. They have great parents. It’s not anything I’ve done. The kids have done it," said Pace.
This is the first team that Pace has coached to an undefeated season. "When I was in the ninth grade in 1979, we were undefeated," he smiled. "And in 1987 when I was a student teacher, the junior Billies went 8-0-1."
After Thursday night’s victory over 21-0 the team enjoyed a post-game celebration at the junior high gymnasium which included shaving assistant coach Steve Fleming’s head. The de-hairing was the result of a promise made by the coach to the team if they should finish the season with a perfect record.
