IRS Will Hold Workshop In Pine Bluff Tomorrow to Help Working Families, Seniors, and Veterans Receive Economic Stimulus Payments
Published by Senator Blanche Lincoln March 28th, 2008 in Sen. Blance Lincoln Column.U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln yesteray announced that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will hold seven workshops across Arkansas tomorrow, in an effort to reach Arkansans who are eligible for the economic stimulus payment but who normally are not required to file an income tax return.
Lincoln said. “The stimulus plan is good for Americans in need of relief and good for our economy.
Millions of Americans who do not pay federal income taxes may be eligible for a $300 rebate check ($600 for married couples) if they have at least $3,000 in qualifying income. Social Security benefits and disability income from the Veterans Administration (VA) are nontaxable, which means many recipients who receive only this type of income would not file a tax return. However, Social Security benefits and VA disability income are categorized as qualifying income for the rebate, and as such count toward the $3,000 threshold.
It was Lincoln’s amendment during the economic stimulus plan’s drafting in Congress that allowed VA disability income to qualify for the rebate. As a result of Lincoln’s work, at least 250,000 veterans who have no other income aside from their disability income will be eligible for a rebate.
Filing a 2007 tax return is the only way eligible Americans can receive an economic stimulus payment. Lincoln encouraged Arkansans who need assistance to attend an IRS workshop or call the IRS Hotline at 1-866-234-2942 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on March 29
The nearest “Super Saturday” Economic Stimulus Workshops will be in Pine Bluff, at Reynolds Center, 211 W. 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Starting in May, the IRS will issue economic stimulus payments of up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples) plus additional payments of $300 for each qualifying child. Most individuals do not need to do anything more than file their tax returns as they normally do to receive the rebate check. The maximum payments will begin to phase out at $75,000 in income ($150,000 for married couples). The IRS filing deadline is April 15.

Are there other workshop locations in South Arkansas.
Specifically, is there one closer to Camden than Pine Bluff? Were all seven Workshops held on march 29th as state in paragraph 1? I missed any previous publications announcing the Workshps, dates, and locations, thus I guess I am a DAY LATE and a Dollar Short.
