House Fire on Midway Route–11:30 AM Sat
January 24th, 2009 by Joe BurgessThe Monticello Fire Dept. responded to the report of a house fire on Midway Route, just past the radio station, Saturday morning, just past 11:30.
The fire was contained to a small area inside of a bedroom, except for the smoke.
Witnesses at the scene credit the man who found the fire with closing the door to keep fresh air out of the room for keeping the fire from growing and spreading.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and the crew left the scene, and the trucks were back at the scene in under an hour.

The man that was credited with this is our son Brian. Words can not express how greatful we are to the Monticello Fire Department. Over the past couple of years we have read mostly bad press on these people. Let me tell you we are very fortunate to have them. They responded very quickly and saved the home of our son and his family. The compassion they showed for them and especially Missy the little black lab puppy was very touching and special to us. They worked swiftly to find Missy but it was too late for her. Even after they found her they did not give up on her and tried to revive her. We will never forget the Monticello Fire Department and you will be in our prayers every time you have to go out on a call. Thank you just does not seem like enough to say, but we are very thankful for you. Also, Joe Burgess thank you for your kindness.
