Hollering Highlights from Last Monday’s Meeting – Video -Approaching 1,700 Plays

March 3rd, 2014 by

Monday’s meeting to discuss possible weather warning solutions was expected to be a quiet, notetaking event.

That was not the case, as voices and emotions begin to increase.

The full audio file of the meeting is posted below.

  1. GRANDMAW says:

that man would ONLY point and yell at me one time Who does he think he is?That shows what is wrong with this town.Makes me wonder if something is wrong with him.Scares me.

  2. Josh says:

Alan Maxwell makes himself look stupid every time he opens his mouth. He wants to make sure he receives something but he doesn’t want to pay for it or if so, not much at all. The best thing that could happen to Monticello is him being voted out of office before he ruins the City.

  3. doc says:

Hollering really!!! Are you not grown? The people in the dining area did not need to hear you. Finger pointing really gets the job done.
    Grow up.

  4. Karon Parrish says:

I’d rather we all pay the same amount. I live in the county and don’t want to pay more and receive less coverage.

  5. Just move forward says:

I personally live in the city but agree with Rene Knowles comment. Base it per person and everyone pay the same amount that is only fair. I can guarantee I will gladly pay extra if those sirens or alarms save one person life it would be worth it. Stop fussing over stupidity and think about the public let everyone contribute equally and put the darn things in motion.

  6. Weather Watcher says:

While the politicians pontificate…. I suggest to each of you that you check the weather daily at the Little Rock National Weather Service @www.srh.noaa.gov. Severe Weather Awareness Week starts Sun. March 2. Helpful information will be released each day next week that will educate each of us on severe weather and our proper response to the threat of dangerous weather. During this time of year, I also check the Storm Prediction Centers convective outlook, this projects levels of threat from severe storms up to four days ahead of time. This website is located at http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/. I also like Katv’s doppler radar that can downloaded directly to your phone. An interactive radar can also be computor accessed. I also recommend investing in a Noaa weather radio. At the end of the day, we each need to be weather aware and not risk our safety by overly depending on our local government to look out for us. Spotter training is offered by the Little Rock weather service at various locations this time of year or a free online Skywarn course is made available by MetEd @ http://www.meted.ucar.edu/

  7. Wondering says:

Just wondering how prospective businesses, visitors, etc perceive
our town with this kind of action AND reporting.

I understand it is our right to know but maybe there are some things that discretion should avoid trying to make the city, mayor, judge, etc look bad in front of anyone with internet access.

What was gained by this? NOTHING!

  8. Kay says:

I agree with Karon. If the population is equal between the city and county, what is wrong with everyone paying the same? Seems like that would be the most fair way.

  9. lindafaulkner says:

He yells at everyone who has a different opinion than he does. He yelled at my 12 year old grandson when we reported a neighborhood dog biting him while he was riding his bike.

  10. Defender of Freedom of the Press says:

    To Wondering,

The Mayor should have worried about what others thought before he shouted, waived his finger and actually clapped at the County Judge. Newspapers, internet news sites are in the business of reporting the news, not pandering to politicians and covering up their boorish behavior. I personally think this video shows the dictorial nature of our Mayor, so I don’t know why you expect MonticelloLive to be his PR agent or publicist. Do you want hamper our freedom of the press?

  11. walter says:

Why isn’t it simply put up for the voters to decide. Not a special election but put on a future ballot and let both the city and county vote. Might be wrong, but it seems it would be more productive than allowing a few to decide.

And thanks Joe. All the activity by the council should be covered in a transparent way. Nothing hidden. I applaud your coverage

  12. doc says:

You will have a chance to vote them out of office. Well maybe the so called leaders should act their age. They know they are being recorded. Maybe they need to stand in the corner until they get a better attitude.

  13. doc says:

He made himself look bad, yelling and pointing his finger at somebody, when he knew he was being recorded.

    I agree with granny

  14. lindafaulkner says:

    To wondering
The public should know and see how awful this man really is. If he didn’t act like this, then “prospective businesses, visitors, etc” wouldn’t have to perceive anything about our town. Wondering, what is right about covering up the inappropriate, violent actions of someone just because they hold a public office? He just showed his true colors.

How is the truth ‘hampering our freedom of the press”?

  15. Wondering says:

I was not saying to “cover up” the actions and comments. Simply trying to get all involved to be more aware of the lasting image this type of behavior impresses upon people.
As to the reporting, it is a right to be able to “report” on ALL things. With that being said however, I don’t believe it served the true nature of reporting as much as another chance to show how uncontrolled our LEADERS of this town are acting. Looking forward to equal ” reporting” when the next mayor conducts meetings.

  16. Ray says:

All I can say is I definitely will not vote for a grown man who acts like a 2 year old having a tantrum. I can’t wait to the election so Monticello can vote him out.

  17. ken ouellette says:

do we want this guy to stay as our mayor? if some one else will run for we can vote this guy out

  18. jerry hughes says:

Does anyone else think its absurd to pay for a tornado warning system…if people had any common sense they would watch the weather (TV/radio), and keep an eye on the sky. It just seems rediculous. Next thing you know we will have to pay to breathe.

  19. nascarfan says:

There will be another meeting of the Quorum Court Monday night (March 4) at 7:00 the public is welcome at any of the meetings.
If the county and city decide to put the sirens in they will not be completed for at least 18 months, Code Red can be up and working within 7 to 10 days. Think about the severe weather that is approaching and the length of time to install the sirens. They will not do us any good for a while. Also some of the citizens that live out in the country may not be able to even hear the sirens once they are set off.
I agree with Mrs. Knowles and the rest of those that think EVERYONE should pay the same amount…IT JUST MAKES SENSE!!!!
