Those employees and volunteers in attendance were presented tokens of appreciation by Head of the Class co-owner Sherrie Gillespie in recognition of the agency’s nearly twelve years of service and it’s one year reign as 2008 Business of the Year. The morning message was delivered by Rev. Shay Gillespie, associate and youth minister at Morning Star and also a co-owner of Head of the Class.
“Because it is nearing the Thanksgiving Holidays, Sherrie and I felt that it would certainly be appropriate to take this opportunity to thank those who have shared our blessings,” said Shay Gillespie. “Nothing worth having is ever easy,” he continued. “ But our journey and our challenges have been made lighter through the years simply because of the many persons who have respected and shared our vision. Nothing we’ve accomplished would have ever been possible without the prayers and assistance of dedicated employees and volunteers. We’re grateful for their involvement.”
Fifty six (56) staff members, in addition to sixteen volunteers were lauded for their efforts. Of the 16 volunteers, Vernestine Wilson of Monticello and Jewel Grant of Dermott were spotlighted in recognition of their contributions toward improving the academic standing of the business’s three and four year old students. Christean Bell of Monticello was honored for her efforts to keep college students involved through the help of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
“Our main desire is to continue to be able to provide all children an opportunity to receive a quality and affordable pre-school education,” said Sherrie Gillespie. “Once we have afforded them that opportunity, our goal is to have them ready from Day One to tackle and conquer any academic and social challenges Kindergarten might present. We thank Rev. D.J. Buffington and Morning Star members for their cooperation. We especially thank the many parents who have entrusted us with educating and caring for their young people. We want everyone to remember that at Head of the Class “Failure is not an option!”
