Hank Thompson Day Celebration with Photos
Published by News Release May 6th, 2008 in Festivals. On Sunday, May 4, 2008, a celebration was held at Jordan Park in memory of the late Hank Thompson. May 4, 1991, Mayor Harold West proclaimed this day as the Hank Thompson Day as well as naming a little league baseball field in his honor.

Even though this was an honor, this was a demise that was hard to let go. However, on March 25, 2008, Shelvis Thompson, father of the late honoree said to his family, “it’s time now, let’s move forward with a celebration.”

It was a great day. The weather was very welcoming and a splendid turnout of at least 250 people was in attendance. There were games played by the little league players, face paintings, free hot dogs and drinks were given to the attendees.

This celebration will now be an annual event with a baseball/softball scholarship established to assist with tuition in memory of the late Hank Thompson.

Mark your calendars to plan to participate in next year’s celebration. We hope to earmark this event for the first Sunday in May. If anyone is interested in donating to the scholarship fund, contact Ms. Angela Jackson at 870-367-2847, or Ms. Arlicia Thompson at 870-723-2799.

I’m sorry for missing the celebration of a very good friend of mine. Hank Thompson was a assett to Monticello. I still miss talking to him. I remember when the Drew County Baseball fields were named for Hank. I can’t think of a more fitting honor. I played baseball with Hank, but what I remember most was his smile and love for his family. I’ve been friends with the Thompson family for years. I hate that I missed this celebration. I wish more people could have known him and what he stood for. He will always be a great memory to me. I wish the best to his family.
What an excellent idea, honoring HANK this way.I,m sure the celebration was fun but a scholarship fund is even better. This way we can help some other Student further their education . Lisa, Angela and the rest of the family my hat’s off to you. Love Judy Brooks Hudspeth
