Hampton Inn Coming to Monticello

We don’t know much about the details, but this sign that was put up late this week, near the rental storage buildings, north of Western Sizzlin’ on HWY 425 north, seems to say it all.

While I welcome the new Hampton Inn coming to Monticello, I can only wonder how long it is going to take for an industry to join our community to create JOBS? Our city is in desparate need for more than fast food, auto part stores, and gas stations. There is nothing wrong with any of those vital necessities but they simply can’t create or pay the wages needed for Monticello and Southeast Arkansas to continue to survive.

Perhaps this is one of the first “baby steps” to get our city STRIVING for more than what is currently offered. For all of those people that are fighting change and don’t want to “grow” into a “Hub” then continue doing as you have been for the past several years.

For those of us that want to have more for us and generations to come, we must understand that to make money one must spend money. Otherwise we will stay as we are living a slow death of a great community.

I can only hope and pray God will bless Monticello to grow and be the “Hub” of Southeast Arkansas so that we might have the same growth potential as our Northwest part of the state.

Merry CHRISTmas and have a very Prosperous New Year,
    Tony Hudson
