GOVERNOR BEEBE LOOKING FOR LEADERS IN THE ARKANSAS DELTA
Published by Governor Mike Beebe May 23rd, 2008 in State Governor's column.Governor Mike Beebe Tuesday announced that he is looking for leaders from the Delta region to participate in the Delta Leadership Institute (DLI). Sponsored by the Delta Regional Authority, in partnership with the University of Alabama’s College of Continuing Studies, the DLI is a one-year program, designed to assemble committed community leaders who will work to provide solutions for the Delta’s challenges.
“Too often, the Delta region is characterized only by high poverty, high unemployment levels, low educational attainment, a loss of skilled labor and a general lack of hope,” Governor Beebe said. “The DLI will work to ensure that communities in the eight states it serves have the civic infrastructure, organizations and knowledge base necessary for economic growth.”
Each DLI participant must be from one of the counties comprising the Delta Regional Authority and is required to attend all five sessions located in various cities throughout the Delta footprint. To learn more about the program, visit the Web site, http://www.deltaleadership.ua.edu/.
Applicants must submit a letter of interest, along with a resume and a letter of recommendation from an elected official by Friday, June 6. Mail letters to Chris Masingill, 122 State Capitol, Little Rock, AR 72201 or call (501) 683-6439 for further information.
