Governor Beebe’s Weekly Column: A Holiday Message
Published by News Release December 24th, 2007 in State Governor's column. Each year, at this time of hope, sharing, and giving, we gather with loved ones. We take the time and make the extra effort to be kinder to one another and to count our blessings. We teach our children that if they work hard, play by the rules, and have faith, their dreams can come true.
The Christmas spirit of caring and sharing joins parents and children, friends and neighbors, the needy and the Good Samaritan. During this season of hope, I hope that we will also look to the future and carry this spirit with us into the New Year, continuing to reach out to the people around us and work for a world of fellowship and peace.
As you gather with friends and family, I ask every Arkansan to remember our neighbors who are serving our nation overseas during this holiday season – and keep them and their families in your hearts and in your prayers. To all of our men and women in uniform, on behalf of all Arkansans, I thank you for your sacrifice and send you best wishes for safe and happy holidays.
2007 has been a momentous year. From improvements in education, to tax relief, to new and better jobs for our people, working together, we have succeeded in making Arkansas even greater. As I look forward to the New Year, I am filled with optimism and commitment to continuing to use our energy and our resources to move our State ever forward.
As we celebrate the spirit of giving across Arkansas, let us gain strength from our progress and rededicate ourselves to acting on our idealism.
A wise man once said, “Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”
Ginger and I extend our warmest wishes to all Arkansans for a happy and safe holiday season, and God bless you all.
