Friday Nights Relay for Life Schedule
Published by News Release June 19th, 2008 in Medical / Hospital.There is going to be a party in the park. Final plans are being made for the Drew County Relay for Life to be held this Friday at McCloy Park. This year’s theme is Celbrating the Search for a Cure for Cancer.
Survivors, their families and caregivers will arrive at 5:00 pm to enjoy a meal prepared by the members of the Relay Comittee.
The opening ceremony and recognition of survivors will begin at 6:00 folowed by the Parade of Teams and then entertainment, fun and games will begin and last all night until 6:00 AM.
Brandy Haley and Sherry Bailey with the American Cancer Society will be presenting the I Can Cope program at the Survivor’s tent at 7:00. This ia an educational program designed to help cancer patients and their loved ones deal with their cancer experience. The I Can Cope series provides information about cancer diagnosis and treatment, pain control, money management and nutrition.
ACS has many other Patient Support programs to help cancer patientrs of all ages. ACS sponsors a Cancer Camp for children from ages 6 to 16. College scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 each to young cancer survivors pursuing higher education.
Look Good … Feel Better is a program in which trained volunteer cosmetologists help female cancer patients deal with the side effects of treatment by teaching them beauty techniques to enhance their appearance and self image.
ACS provides funds to be used to assist cancer patients with recurring / chronic transportation needs when no other assistance is available.
All cancer survivors are encouraged to come out and learn what ACS can do for them If you are a survivor and have not received your invitation, please contact Ashley Echols at 460-6458 to be included in the celetration.
AT 9:00 the Luminaria ceremony will begin. There will be a specail guest speaker sharing their cancer story and the then Kathy Lyon-Pace will be singing as the candles are lit in honor of those that are standing up against cancer and also in memory of those that have lost their battle.
Luminarias can still be purchased. Please be sure to place your order to honor or memorialize your loved one. Forms are still abailable at all local banks or in htis paper. They can also be bought at the park Friday evening.
Donations are needed to continue the work of ACS in the fight against cancer. If you have not had an opportunity to give, you may do so at the relay. Children can bring in their Piggy banks and drop the coins into a container near the stage area.
Come early and stay late, as cancer never sleeps neither will relayers. For 12 hours some one will be walking the track to symbolize the never ending fight for the cure Help us make this truly a Celebration of the Search for the Cure for Cancer.

Thursday night is Bank Night for the teams. From 5:00 until 7:00 team captains can turn their money in to Stacy Fisackerly at the Union Bank coffee room.
