Friday Morning Tornado Causes Damage at Rye, on HWY 35 West
Published by Joe Burgess March 15th, 2008 in Weather.According to reports, a tornado swept through the Rye community Friday morning, around 2:30 a.m.
Damage was done to several homes, vehicles, and many trees were down as well, with major damage done near Gavin Lane and HWY 63.
This is the area just across from HWY 35 West’s intersection with HWY 63, north of Warren.
Multiple Tyson chicken houses were destroyed. The birds had been set to be harvested the next day, so the loss was compounded.
The National Weather Service says the tornado was rated an EF2 of tornado severity.The funnel was on the ground 9.4 miles and traveld east-southeast of New Edinburg, crossing the Saline River, making it’s way approzimately a mile northeast of Rye.
Thee were no injuries or deaths reported in the storm.
