Bob Maxwell, age 74, of Monticello passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, AR.  He was born April 13, 1933, in Monticello, AR to the late Thomas T. Maxwell and Richie Smith Maxwell.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson Maxwell.

He was a 1973 graduate of Arkansas A&M College where he received his BS degree in Physical Education and received his Masters degree in Occupational Education from the University of Arkansas in 1983.  He was a retired master sergeant with the United States Air Force where he served his country for 20 years.

He was employed by the Monticello Occupational Education Center as a teacher/counselor for 13 years before he was appointed by Mayor Harold West as Chief of Police at the Monticello Police Department where he served for 12 years.  He was also a member and deacon of the Wood Avenue ARP Church, a member of the VFW and American Legion and was a former director of the Monticello City Parks.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Ann Ufferman Maxwell of Monticello;  two sons, Robbie Maxwell of Little Rock & Jeff Maxwell and wife, Susan of Independence, MO;  his daughter, Beth McGee and husband, O.Z. of Star City;  and four grandchildren, Ryan Maxwell, Shelby & Lindsey Maxwell and Maggie McGee.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Saturday at the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel by Rev. Michael Garvey.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery with full military honors by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.  Family visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home.

    My thoughts are with your family. Mr Maxwell was a great teacher and always took the time to listen to you even if he was busy with more important things. I teased him about being a police chief, he always had a great sense of humor. I will miss him, he was a great and inspirational man. Bright Blessings to your family, he will be missed.
