First National Bank of McGehee recently presented a $1,000 scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Monticello Foundation Fund in honor of W. Henry Anthony, the bank’s chairman emeritus.

The scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the business technology program at the UAM College of Technology-McGehee.
“I am pleased to accept this generous gift in honor of Mr. Anthony,” said UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter. “We are grateful to have such wonderful friends who have a steadfast commitment to education and to our students. This generosity is helping build a bright future for the state and region.”
Anthony was the organizer and original chairman of the board of First National Bank of McGehee and was instrumental in obtaining the bank’s charter from the Comptroller of the Currency. Anthony served as board chairman from 1973 until September 1, 2007, when he was named chairman emeritus.
Anthony is a former chairman of the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission and the Users Advisory Board of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.  He is also a former president of the Catfish Farmers of America.
