First Assembly revs up

Passersby were not quite sure what to make of the scene at First Assembly of God Church on Highway 425 North this past Sunday. Rows upon rows of massive motorcycles were parked in the parking lot, with leather-clad bikers happily strolling into the church.

It was the church’s 3rd annual Biker Sunday with a full police escort for the two-wheeled guests. Bikers from all over south and central Arkansas and Lousiana participated, some coming from as far as Monroe, LA to the South and Mount Ida to the North. Many local riders participated as well.

“I enjoyed it immensely. They were welcoming to everybody! Alan Womack did an excellent job,” said Martha Huffman. Huffman’s husband, Shelby, participated in the event with his Honda Valkyrie. The Huffmans are members of a regional Christian cyclists organization called Kingdom Riders. About 10 of the members of the organization were present in addition to the other bikers.
With the addition of the bikers, attendance Sunday at First Assembly was over 500 and church members served each other and their guests lunch in the new dining facility after the worship services. Church members also spent time praying over each rider.

Afterwards, bikers displayed their skills in various riding games and gave rides to adults and children, ages 5-95.

As a member of First Assembly, I can tell you it was a previlidge and a joy to have the bikers and guest this past Sunday. Everyone was so nice by giving rides and letting us ‘bikeless’ sit on their machines. God blessed us with beautiful weather and a great turn out!

Thanks Jeff for the “Reved Up” coverage of Monticello events!

Jeff thanks for the coverage of the biker Sunday. The church went out of their way to make us bikers feel welcomed. The Kingdom Riders mention in the article is a new chapter of ABBA (Arkansas Baptist Biker Association). It is an organization of Southern Baptist Bikers whose purpose is to share the Gospel with the motorcycling community through acts of kindness and genuine concern for the motorcyclist and their loved ones.
