FireWorks Held at Police Dept (to be returned to owners after they were stolen)

July 2nd, 2009 by Joe Burgess

0012Around 12:30, Thursday morning, MPD patrolman Ray Singleton was on his way to assist another officer with a traffic stop, when he turned from South Main Street, onto Jordan Drive.

When his headlights pointed to the west, he saw the oncoming traffic: 3 males on bicycles, carrying 4  bags, which they began dropping and throwing away from them.

The officer stopped all 3 of the bicyclist, assisted by another officer (who was also on his way to the traffic stop) and found a LARGE amount of fireworks, that were stolen from Dave’s Fireworks, on HWY 425 South.

The larger duffle bad, along with the 3 smaller grocery type sacks, contained over 1,000 “shots” of various types of fireworks, likely valued at several hundred dollars.

The 3 subjects were taken into custody, and charged with commercial burglary.  Terrance Brown, age 20 of Monticello, is being held in the County Detention Facility, and the two 17 year olds who were involved, were released to their parents.

  2. hobbitt says:

    Yes, good job.
On the one hand “its just some fireworks”, on the other that is quit a bit of inventory for a small business.
The police in Monticello seem to be awful busy lately.
Thanks to those in the city police and Sheriff’s department.

  3. Andy Caravella says:

The items stolen are “AS HOT AS A FIRECRACKER”, in more ways than one.
