Fire Dept. Receives $20,000 Grant for Rescue Truck

The Monticello Fire Dept. was presented with a $20,000 check, representing a grant from the rural development division of the U.S.D.A.

Shown with members of the fire dept. and Mayor Joe Rogers, are Rural Development’s Rick Hall and Mable Gibbs.

The grant will be used to help pay for a new rescue truck, to replace the one shown here, the balance of the funding, around $130,000, will come from city monies, which have already been allocated for the purchase.

I am glad to see that the City of Monticello is supporting the Fire Dept. with the purchase of this truck. Most smaller cities will not give the money needed to the FD’s. The Fire Department in smaller towns sometimes gets overlooked because they don’t make 1000 runs a year. But when you need them, it is comforting to know they are here! I know that they probably don’t get every thing they want or need, but they have a lot better equipment than most FD’s their size. A rescue truck like this is a great investment and I am glad our city made the choice to fund it!

Keep up the great work guys! We appreciate what you do!
