Published by Jeff May 29th, 2007 in Business.
The Drew County Farmers’ Market at Monticello will be open for business beginning Saturday June 2, 2007 with days of operation being Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Covered booth space is available and free of charge.
According to representatives from the Monticello Economic Development Commission, garage sales and growers from surrounding counties are welcomed and encouraged to participate. Starting this year, the Monticello Market will qualify for the WIC Farmers Market program. The program allows women, infants, and children approximately $14 per month, in WIC checks. WIC checks can only be spent at a qualified Farmers Market.
The addition of WIC acceptance at the Farmers’ Market is expected to generate some $5500 per month in WIC checks alone for the Market. To become a qualified WIC vendor please call Ann Goad at 367-3076. The requirement to becoming a WIC approved vendors is to grow 50% of what you sell. The market is located on East Shelton under the “old tomato shed.”
