Monticello Exxon owner Terri Montgomery, front right, is shown presenting a $500 grant check to Monticello High School counselor Vicki Tilley from Monticello Exxon, B-B-F Oil Company and the ExxonMobil Education Alliance. The grant will be used to help fund the efforts of the MHS Renaissance Team. Also shown are students Tonette Wilkes, Rashada McWilliams, Nina Greenway, Lauren Brewer, Meredith Grubbs, Tia Harden, Kristal Wilkes, Mason Hooker, Ben Alexander, Quinn Ranahan, Felicia Whitaker and Kyree McCray.

For the tenth consecutive year, B-B-F Oil Company and Monticello Exxon have teamed with the ExxonMobil Education Alliance to award a $500 grant to Monticello High School.

This year, B-B-F Oil Company, its independent dealers and Exxon Family Stops worked together to award grants to 11 school districts through 12 Exxon outlets.

The grant awards are put to multiple uses. In Monticello, the money will be used for the school’s Renaissance Team. Among the things targeted by the Renaissance Team are attendance, gradepoint averages, school morale and graduation rates. Monticello students are able to earn “incentive cards” for improvements in GPA and consistent attendance. The cards can include discounts on services or products.

The joint program between B-B-F, Monticello Exxon and the ExxonMobil Education Alliance is part of an ongoing annual process that is offered only by local Exxon dealers to participate in the community where they operate. “It is a way that we can say thank you to the community and provide a small part in the success of tomorrow’s leaders,” said Monticello Exxon owner Terri Montgomery.
