The Enon Extension Club, in searching for a Club Project at the start of the new year, discovered a need at Drew Memorial Hospital.  The hospital case management staff shared information that occasionally people coming for emergency treatment at the hospital do not have adequate clothes to go home in, if their clothes have to be cut away, or if they are too soiled to be worn home.  In the past, hospital staff have scrambled to find garments for these patients to wear home, or the patient would have to wait for family to be located to bring clothing, or for family to go home to get clothing.  Occasionally, family would not be readily available to assist.

To help establish an emergency clothing closet, the Enon Club purchased and donated varying sizes of sweat suits, t-shirts, scrubs, and other related items that would be suitable to wear home and would not need to be returned to the hospital.  A suitcase was also donated by club president, Ruth Phillips, to help hold the clothes.  Case Managers at the hospital will have oversight of the clothing closet and garments will be available to anyone in need of emergency assistance.  Leslie Searcy, RN, Case Manager at the hospital will notify club members if additional items are needed for the future.

In addition to this project, the Enon Club has an ongoing project of providing birthday cakes for the residents at the Golden Living Center in Monticello. A sugar-free cake is provided also, so that all residents who wish to participate can have a piece of cake. This has been a monthly event looked forward to by residents and club members alike.

Both of these projects support the Extension Homemakers Creed to be helpful to others and to create a more contented family and community life. Enon Club members are:  Ruth Phillips, President; Tommye Boyd, Pattye Bordeaux, Joan Bordeaux, Molly Flemister, Mildred Jones, Gertie Sawyer, Kathy Donaldson, Karen Donaldson, and Laura Whitaker.
