Election Day 2006

As Election Day 2006 draws to a close, state officials report that almost 10% of Arkansans voted early. Results will begin coming in this evening as most county clerk offices begin the reporting process after the 7:30 p.m. voter cutoff.

At the end of early voting Monday, 62 of Arkansas’ 75 counties had reported that more than 163,000 people had cast ballots since early voting began Oct. 23. There are about 1.6 million registered voters in the state. Secretary of State Charlie Daniels estimates that just under one million Arkansans will vote in the 2006 elections.

I wanted to thank you for having this on and keeping it updated last night. I was keeping check on MonticelloLive as well as having the TV and radio on. Since I only get ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. it gave me a chance to see what the other networks were saying. I as actually getting information here quicker than I was on TV. The only thing missing was how Drew County voted.

Thanks, Mary, for the comments. It was rather fun reporting on things as they broke. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t find anyone giving results for Drew County. Looks like we’ll be in the Stone Age a little longer. Even kthv.com - who was running state results - linked to every county but Drew.

Does anyone have any information about how Referred Question 1 faired? I’d like to see UAM get some much needed assistance with the technological infrastructure of the campus. Talk about “stone age.” Poise isn’t going to cut it for very much longer. Still, you have to make due with the tools you have. I hope it passed. There wasn’t much reason for it not to.

    The education bond question passed.

With 64 of the 75 counties reporting, the results are:
    For: 410,699
    Against: 189,856

You can track the votes at the Arkansas Secretary of State’s website. Counties were posting their results there last night as they came in.

Well, I for one am glad to see the Democrats regain control in Arkansas and the nation. The Governor’s race survey on this website indicated a strong right leaning. The results of the election (printed in the newspaper) show that Drew County, Arkansas and the US of A views the political landscape differently. Overwhelmingly, the people voted for change…..

Can the republicans hold on to the majority? Democrats predict wins giving them control again. It seems to me more attention is paid to the party instead of the people. Neither party has a magic wand they can wave and solve all our problems.
The only way anything can be accomplished is for all to work together. When more consideration is given to how something will effect the party instead of the people, “WE” come out on the losing end. I don’t think it’s supposed to be that way. What can be done to correct this problem and make our elected officials focus their attention on things that benefit “US” instead of what’s best for the party?
I believe that is the $64.00 question. I feel we should focus our attention on the person and not the color jacket they wear. But that’s just my two cents worth!

Jeff, thanks for this site. I check it often, I wish more people would get involved.
