Editorial: Monticello vs. P.A. ironic
Published by Jeff October 30th, 2006 in Site.Seldom is one asked to pray at their alma mater’s homecoming game. The situation is rarer when the team one’s alma mater is playing just happens to be the football team of the town one now calls home.
When Monticello matches up against Pulaski Academy this Friday night, I’ll be there - to pray at the game and to root for the Billies. I attended P.A. from the first through the twelfth grades, graduating in 1986. This ironic situation reminds me of Craig O’Neill’s famous prank call to the Alabama coach. Before becoming KTHV’s sports anchor, Craig was a must-listen on my way to school as his antics on radio station B98.5 in Little Rock were notorious. With Craig’s permission, I’ve provided the audio of that call below.
To top it all off, we received the following postcard from P.A. last week. You’re all invited this Friday night to witness two strong teams squaring off against one another. Consider the pot stirred!

That recording is great. A classic!
I’ve never heard that recording, but I’m laughing so hard right now, people are calling my extension from other parts of the building wondering if I’m okay! Thanks for the much needed monday morning laugh.
How cool is it to be praying at the game of your alma mater and your home town team!!!!!!This is the kind of thing that makes Tim Chase love sports, football specifically. I’ll have to listen to the Craig O’Neill’s prank later. There happens to be a patient in the waiting room right now. GO BILLIES!!!!!!!!
Well, I guess I should be relieved. It’s not as bad as it could have been. You had me going Saturday till your Dad reminded me that you were just trying to get me. Hopefully, my job is still secure.
Craig O’Neal Cracks me up!! WHAT A GREAT PRAYER…..I say that God should part the clouds and yell, "GO HOGS"…we all know that is how he feels! :)
That is definitely one of Craigs best.
I haven’t heard that before, but it was GREAT!!!!
