Matt Dozier, EAST President and CEO, will address the Arkansas Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council on Thursday, October 16, 2008. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will be held at Next Level events in Little Rock’s Train Station.EAST is an educational model that is engaging students in sophisticated service-learning projects that involve relevant teamwork and cutting-edge technology. The EAST Initiative is an educational non-profit that works with schools across the country (including more than 170 in the state of Arkansas) to implement local EAST programs. EAST has been named a model program by the United States Department of Education and the United States Department of Labor and has helped to impact the lives of thousands of students across the country.

“Through EAST projects students are exposed to strategies that help them move from the traditional self-centered approaches of learning into a more realistic (and more relevant) interdependent environment that stress understanding, collaboration, and team approaches to problem resolution,” said Amy Glover Bryant, Director of Development and Communications.

In his presentation, EAST: 21st Century Learning, Dozier will share the EAST vision and profile a variety student projects from across the U.S. The presentation will demonstrate how the intersection of technology and service is helping to create the next generation of leaders and thinkers.

Dozier first became affiliated with EAST in 1998 while teaching at North Pulaski High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas becoming the first facilitator of that program. He soon became a member of the first EAST Professional Development training team, helping to develop curriculum and train hundreds of teachers as the EAST program spread to over 180 schools in eight states. In 2001, Dozier joined the EAST staff full-time, serving variously as the Initiative’s Communication Director, Assistant Program Director, and National Program Director. Matt was named EAST CEO in 2007.
