Local State Representative Race Draws 4 Candidates – Lampkin, Gavin, Shepherd, & Bolding
March 9th, 2010 by Joe BurgessThe position for State Representative for District 10, has spiked the interest of four candidates who have filed for the office.
Sheilla Lampkin, a retired Monticello and Drew Central teacher and dedicated volunteer to many local organizations, announced her campaign for the position in August.
Donald Jason Gavin, of Rison, filed for the office on Thursday. Gavin has served 4 years as a Cleveland County justice of the peace, and is employed by England Packing Co. of Rison.
On the final morning for filing, Rita Shepherd, of Plantersville, ,who is a former Lincoln County and Drew County Judge submitted her filing for the office. She is currently director of New Beginnings Rehabilitation in Warren.
Ross Bolding, of Monticello also filed Monday. Bolding is a retired school superintendent from Jonesboro. He also was principal at Woodlawn, and has taught classes at UAMonitcello. Bolding has been a Monticello resident since 1985.
Allen Maxwell, currently holds the state representative spot, but his term limits run out at the end of this year. Maxwell is running for the office of Mayor of Monticello, against current Mayor Joe Rogers.

4 More Candidates File, as Deadline Passes–45 Candidates Total
As the filing period for political offices drew to a close at noon today, 4 more candidates filed:
Josh McKiever, Monticelo city council, ward 3 pos 2, This seat is currently held by Clifton Bold.
Beverly Hudson, Monticello city council, ward 4, pos. 1,
Orlando Jones, Drew County quorum court, district 1, and
Toni Perry, Wilmar alderman, ward 2, pos 1.

Sheriff, Mayor, & JP Races Draw Competition -41 Candidates Total So Far for All Local Offices
Friday, the election filing period continued, as the time to file ends Monday at noon.
Friday’s filings include:
Larry Smith Jr., for Sheriff and Collector, against incumbant sheriff Mark Gober,
Allen Maxwell, for Mayor of Monticello, against current mayor, Joe Rogers,
Al Peer, Monticello City Council, ward 1, pos. 2,
Andrea Chambers, Monticello City Clerk.
Marvin Hopson, Sr., Wilmar City Council, ward 2, pos. 2.and
Wes Fletcher, for county surveyor, for a position that has been vacant.
Thursday brought 3 more elected officials into the May primary elections, including;
Kenneth Trotter, Drew County Quorum Court, district 6.
(Chris Barnett has already filed for this position),
Rene Knowles, Drew County Quorum Court, district 9.
(Ronnie Adcock has already filed for this position), and
Curley Jackson, Mayor of Wilmar.

Monday at noon was the first chance to file to run for political election, and several local elected officials filed for re-election, as did a former quorum court member.
Circuit Clerk Pat Scifres-Savage, and Tax Assessor Beth Davis, filed for re-election to their positions, and are shown here with County Clerk Lyna Gulledge, who is also seeking re-election.
Drew County Judge Damon Lampkin, Sheriff Mark Gober, and Marion Township Constable Joe Burgess also are seekign re-election to their offices.
Two incumbant JP’s file Monday afternoon, Louis Dunlap of District 3, and Jimmy Potter of District 8
Everyone who filed Monday is currently serving in those positions, with one exception.
Local businessman, Ronnie Adcock, a former Justice of the Peace for District 9, filed to seek that position again.
That seat on the Quorum Court is currently held Rene Knowles.
