Earl Hesse To Perform With UAM Jazz Band April 1
Published by UAM News March 31st, 2008 in UAM News.Noted jazz saxophonist Earl Hesse will perform with the University of Arkansas at Monticello Jazz Bands in a free public concert April 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the UAM Fine Arts Center auditorium.
Hesse recently retired from Henderson State University after 27 years on the faculty, including 15 years as director of HSU’s Collegiate Jazz Band. Hesse has performed with top jazz recording artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Rich, Clark Terry, Doc Severinson, Al Hirt, Maynard Fergson, and Harry Connick, Jr. He currently performs with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Big Band.
UAM Jazz Band 1, under the direction of Gary Meggs, will perform Bill Potts’ arrangement of “Summertime,” “The Point of No Return” by Eric Richards, and Duke Ellington’s “In A Sentimental Mood.” Hesse will join the band for performances of “Since I Fell For You” by Buddy Johnson, “12 Meter Boogie,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” and John Clayton’s “Be Serious ‘Bout ‘Dem Blues.”
Jazz Band 2, directed by Les Pack, will feature saxophonist and composer Brian Rhodes.
