Last week, Randall Powell was scheduled to appear before Drew Circuit Judge Sam Pope, to appeal his conviction of DWI from Monticello District Court.

Powell’s appeal hearing was set to begin at 9:00.  At 9:15, when Powell had not arrived, Judge Pope ruled that he had forfeited his appeal, and dismissed the jury.

Powell did arrive at 9:20, but the jury had already left the courtroom.

Aside from losing his appeal, Judge Pope also Powell to pay court costs, and re-imburse the court for the juror’s pay for the day.
