Dunlap Files for Re-election to JP Position
January 31st, 2010 by Submitted
Louis Dunlap, 49 year resident of Drew County, has announced his candidacy for re-election to another term as District 3 Justice of the Peace on the Drew County Quorum Court.
He is a graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he received a Master’s degree in math education. He taught for 12 years in the Monticello Public Schools, before going to University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he taught for 23 years before retiring in 1996.
Dunlap served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In making his announcement, Dunlap said, “as J.P. of District 3, I pledge to be a promise-keeper and to make service my priority in the following areas:
1. I’m very proud to be a part of a knowledgeable Quorum Court, whose members believe in God and prayer. They are fair with all people of Drew County as they strive to do what is best for the county. The accountability, experience, and expertise of the Drew County Quorum Court will help the people to know that they are in good hands under the leadership of the present Quorum Court.
2. Another term on the Drew County Quorum Court will provide me the opportunity to continue my commitment to the task for which I am chosen, as a servant and torchbearer for Drew County.
3. I will do whatever I can to encourage economic growth and bring new jobs to Drew County. I am also interested in the spread of education and development of a fuller life for individuals with healthier surroundings and better conditions.
As J.P. of District 3, I have been in constant contact with Mayor Joe Rogers trying to find out when the city of Monticello will replace the washed out bridge on South Conley Street. This bridge was washed 6 or more months ago. Having no bridge there has caused a great inconvenience to the citizen of District 3.
The mayor says that they (the city) has worked very hard and has gone through a lot of red-tape trying to get that bridge done. When I was in the Mayor’s office 2 weeks ago, he said that the new bridge will be constructed very soon now.
“If I am re-elected to the Drew County Judge, Quorum Court members, county and city officials, and support the ongoing road projects and other services for the county.
The citizens of District 3 appreciate the work of the Drew County Sheriff’s Department and the Monticello Police Department for their fight against crime, and for their efforts to keep our communities safe. They are also thankful for the Drew County Judge’s weekly report, which informs the people of Drew County about the many ongoing projects in the county.
With your vote, your help, and the use of our collective gifts, we can realize our goals and dreams for a better Drew County,” Dunlap concluded.
