Drug Suspect Declines Lawyer, Requests Postmaster

August 2nd, 2010 by

Louis  Brown, age 54, of Monticello was arrested last week and charged with manufacturing a controlled substance (marijuana) with intent to deliver.

Brown’s first appearance hearing was held Wednesday afternoon.

Drug task force agents were present for the hearing, and testified that they executed a search warrant on the property, and recovered at least 50 marijuana plants growing there, along with many items associated with high tech marijuana growing operations.

Brown’s arrest is the first “hydroponics” grow that has been discovered in the area.  A loaded firearm was also recovered.

To begin the hearing, Brown told Judge Ken Harper abouth his “status”, and then told the court that the judge didn’t have jurisdiction over him.

During the proceedings, Browen declined an attorney.

At the end of the hearing, Brown stated that he wanted it included in the record that he wanted to speak to the postmaster.

The local postmaster was contacted by MonticelloLive, but seemed to have no knowledge of the situation .

Brown’s bond was set at $100,000.

this is your brain on drugs

  2. LMD says:

Good Heavens! The postmaster huh? I agree with Kay!! could not have said it better…I am still laughing over this..Wonder what he wants to ship?

  3. Rick says:

This kinda makes sense. Monticello is blessed with a great post office and postal staff. I know that I always feel encouraged and well served when I go in.

    I really can’t think of a lawyer I’d rather be around. : )

  4. Nana says:

He can’t be too afflicted if he has sense enough to grow his “hydroponic money crop.” Maybe he figures that where he’s going, he’ll need stamps more than he will a lawyer. Every good business has a mailing list of customers who are contacted from time to time for special sales or a friendly hello. And, if the business shuts down for a while, there are the grand re-opening announcements to be sent out to the old customers. I say this “gentleman farmer” just wants to take plenty of postage and envelopes with him to the slammer. Staying in contact with your customers is of vital importance to any enterprise.

  5. POGO says:

Change of address would be my guess.

ITS JUST POT I HAVE SEEN RAPIST GET CHEAPER BONDS SET

  7. Dragonheart says:

He must have his “government officials” confused. Or he prefers mailmen over lawyers. Can you blame him? Ha-Ha! It is hard to believe this was the first hydroponic set up busted. Interesting. A hydroponic shop just opened up right down the street from me. Of course it is “legal” where I reside. It would be so much easier if they just legalized it and be done with it?
